Must agree wholeheartedly with the ranking. P3 was most convincing and Paixar would be second-to-none in any other company. While I haven’t tried the Palacios cult bottlings I can say confidently that I’d rather have a Dominio de Tares Cepas Viejas than a Corullón. At least as far as 2001 is concerned.
I’ve forgotten to ask about Bembibre 2001/02 (or I’ve forgotten your answerin any case). I loved the 2002 in February at V3 in Valencia, but since then I’ve read people complain about excess of tannin. I thought it much better and less oaky than the 2001, but maybe I met it in a fruit phase...

Regarding the tasting (and related article on the Spanish side), a couple of us tried the ’01 Bembibre initially in Spain along with the P3 and Cepas Viejas. In comparison we didn’t like it as well as the other two - less restrained, too oaky. At the time we did the bigger horizontal tasting it was difficult to get our hands on all the wines, and we decided it wasn’t worth the added effort to include Bembibre.

The importer for Dominio de Tares suggested afterwards that Cepas Viejas was in a ";dumb"; phase, and indeed it was not nearly as good as what I had in Spain. Certainly on that day I would be shocked if you preferred Cepas Viejas to the Corullón.

You’re right that Paixar is a most impressive effort, but it just did not have the immediate balance that P3 possesses. I think it will do very well in the longer term, however. Indeed, I have a case of it plus one magnum in my cellar.

First of all, congratulations for the “article”.

My opinion about the wines tasted is (sorry TN’s in Spanish):

IMHO P3 is a very consistent wine, balanced, full bodied, and over all... easy and ready to drink.

I also like Paixar very much, however it needs far more bottle to be in perfect conditions to be drunk. https://www.verema.com/comunidad/vinoscatados/vino.asp?vino=5812

Bembibre is also a nice wine but lacks the complexity of P3 and Paixar.

Finally about Corullon, I do not remember exactly my perceptions as I tried it in a very big tasting. This is my TN: https://www.verema.com/comunidad/vinoscatados/vino.asp?vino=6274

I have not tried the other tasted wines.

    Cheers!

    Cepas Viejas??

I couldn’t believe it when I read the note for Cepas Viejas. I loved this wine (can’t possibly afford the more expensive ones). In fact it was my first verema-influenced discovery (so has sentimental value)!

So it’s in a ";dumb phase";? Looking at the most recent TNs, some people seem to think it’s going downhill. Should I drink both my remaining bottles soon? Or keep them both for a while?

I’m almost glad to hear that people Spain also are now finding problems with CV relative to its earlier performance. I was impressed with the wine when I had it in Spain previously, but it was so disappointing in the tasting that I was a afraid that the wine might have been damaged during shipping to the US. The experience of others hopefully suggests that the wine is just in a bad phase.
