Ribas de Cabrera Question
Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiDoes anybody know when Sarah Perez started making this wine for the historic Bodegas Herederos de Ribas? 2000?
I have had a couple of bottles of the 1999 recently, which I think has good potential but still suffers from a slightly bothersome varnished cedar oakiness relative to the more seductive 1998. Has anoyone tried the ’01 and ’02?

Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiI’ve tried Ribas de Cabrera 1998 and Ribas de Cabrera 2000 and as far as I remember the profile of both wines was similar…. However I’ll ask the Distributor here in Valencia about since when is Sara helping them….

Ver mensaje de Paco HigónThanks Paco. Like its Mallorquin cousin, Anima Negra, I have not seen Ribas de Cabrera in the US since the 1999 vintage. I assume that it is a fairly obscure wine even in Spain, no? I think it deserves to be better known.

Ver mensaje de Paco HigónSometimes Can Ribas is listed as part of DO Binissalem and sometimes not. I don’t know why.
In the case of Mallorca, particulary if it is true that Ribas de Cabrera is not within a DO, it may be that the best wines are made outside the the DOs: Anima Negra and Ribas. Binissalem does not seem to have much going on. Outside the two Gelaberts, I’m not aware of anything terribly noteworthy in Pla I Llevant either.

I’m afraid to say that I have been disappointed by the wines of Bodegas José L. Ferrer so often over several vintages that I do not have much faith left.
