Spanish Grenache
Spanish Grenache
Ver mensaje de rayolJust tried the ORSUS 2001,
a 100% old vine garnacha. I was really impressed.
Quite Chateaunuef like in style. A very drinkable and impressive style.
Is there more like this one in Spain ?
Re: Spanish Grenache
Ver mensaje de rayolWell, there are a few old red Grenache vines is Monsant & Priorat area. In the Spanish side there are some TN’s of this wine: https://www.verema.com/comunidad/vinoscatados/vino.asp?vino=3654
One of the best (and probably also one of the most expensive wines from Montsant is the magnificent Cabrida from Celler de Capçanes. However most of the wines form Monsant are the result of a blending of different varieties (of course including Grenache).
Re: Spanish Grenache
Ver mensaje de Paco HigónThanks Paco,
I feared the answer might be Priorat !
Pity prices are so high.
Must try the Cabrida though.Excellent quality from a co-op !
I really enjoyed the Orsus.
Re: Spanish Grenache
Ver mensaje de rayolHowever you’ll find far better prices with the ";blended"; wines.... in fact much better than Orsus.... If you want some suggestions... Just say it!
Re: Spanish Grenache
Ver mensaje de Paco HigónMuch more reasonable in price than Priorat (or even some from Montsant) are the Garnachas from Aragón, esp Campo de Borja. Lovely clean fruit and real character for very little money from producers like Bodegas Aragonesas + Borsao.
Yep I completely agree
Ver mensaje de suikoBorsao Tres Picos is a magnificent example

As it is Pagos Misticos

Cheers!!
Ok then Paco...suggestions !!
Ver mensaje de Paco HigónI have tried the Tres Picos once before and while it was perfectly fine..a good ";clean fruit"; example it lacked the ";garrique"; you find in some French examples.
That’s what I liked about the Orsus but if there are better examples from Aragon or elsewhere I’m happy to try !
un saludo
Ray
Re: Ok then Paco...suggestions !!
Ver mensaje de rayolMancuso, a vino de la tierra Valdejalón, is a stand-out garnacha, but somewhat closer to the Priorat style. Capcanes Cabrida needs to be on your list. Artazuri makes some decent garnacha. Bodegas Nekeas Vega Sindoa El Chaparral?
