Pingus 2002

I heard that Peter Sisseck has decided to declassify all of his 2002 Pingus into the Flor de Pingus. True??? This might make the ’02 Flor de Pingus an unusually good buy - relatively speaking.

Walt, there will be no Pingus 2002 (for the first time since the inaugural 1995 vintage) because there was a terrible frost and most of the grapes were lost. The grapes for Flor de Pingus come from different vineyards.

Overall, 2002 is a very difficult year in Ribera. I doubt there will be a great Flor de Pingus that year. Better invest in 2001 if you like Flor de Pingus (I think its QPR is not good, at least until the ’99 vintage).

Well, instead of two cases of Pingus you can buy a case of Le Pin or Petrus... or three cases of L’Ermita... :-)

This is certainly not a good sign for 2002 Ribera del Duero generally. I’m not sure about 2003 either.

All the more reason to buy a ton of ’01.

No, no, no! I meant a ton of Ribera del Dueros. Even if I could afford a a lot of Pingus I hope I would have the good sense not to buy too much of it.
