Price of Spanish wines.... out of Spain

I generally agree with my friend Fernando about price ranges, but more and more Spanish reds priced at about $10, even if generally good, suffer from significant bottle variation. I have started to give up on many of these. I would say that my average for a basic Spanish red is closer to $20, although even in this case, it is difficult to estimate. Fernando and I share an affliction: I think it is safe to say that we both will purchase a particular Spanish wine out of curiosity - for the simple reason that we have never tried it before. I often buy mixed cases of Spanish wines, with only 1 or 2 bottles of each. I try them all but only buy more for my cellar if I am impressed with a wine’s quality and relative value.
