Cuvee El Palomar
Cuvee El Palomar
Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiSome disagreement in the TNs. Coincidentally, I just had this for dinner last night.
Re: Cuvee El Palomar
Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiMmmm, quite funny I thought that you have organised an inter-continental virtual tasting…. Unfortunately I have not tried this vintage so… I can not mediate ;-)))
Re: Cuvee El Palomar
Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiI never had it, in any vintage ... so I can not comment ...

Ver mensaje de MaJesusCorkscrews at dawn Walt !!
I had this at a huge walkaround tasting. Walt had it at dinner. Two very different environments. However highly extracted wines often show well at these tastings and this wine impressed me in these surroundings. Was it a reaction to ";showy"; wines or is it just lovely ??
I’ll open one if I lay my hands in Spain soon.
One other thing though isn’t this bodega rather famous for bottle variation. This bottle also had a new label, no colourful angels any more!

Re: Cuvee El Palomar
Ver mensaje de MaJesusI’ve had all the Abadia Retuerta wines, but not in every vintage. This is a producer with really great potential, but it always seem to fall disappointingly short of its abilities. From what I hear, I think the near future will be better. Specifically, I’ve been told by experts I trust that winemaker Angel Anocibar has near-boundless talent and that he is getting more control to run the vineyards in a manner that should improve the wines (e.g., cutting yields).
Re: Let’s hope so ...
Ver mensaje de WaltZalenski.. there is fierce competition now in wines in every price segment, but specially in that ";middle/ middle-up"; segment ... I, myself, have had very few abadia retuerta wines ... maybe I’ll have more when I go to USA :) (but then I’ll have to ask for yout advise :-D )

Casablanca
Ver mensaje de WaltZalenskiWalt, just thinking (like Rick)
of all the wines in all the world....we had to have the exact same one on the same day..bizarre !
Re: Casablanca
Ver mensaje de RayQThis is all the more strange since this cuvee is not particularly common. Frankly, I might have been even more disappointed in the wine had I paid for it - the price is generally $45-50. Instead, a sommelier I know who was contemplating purchasing the wine for his restaurant’s wine list gave me a bottle while I was dining there and asked for my opinion. In fairness to you, I should say that the sommelier, who had tried the wine earlier in the day, liked the wine better that I did. But my opinion remains as reported in the TN - a correct wine that lacks personality.
