Reservas and Gran Reservas
Re: Interesting taste but...
Ver mensaje de joseAbsolutely with food.
And with considerable bottle age (for the modern ones as the GR’s already are old)
And blind !
8-) It’d be really-really...
Ver mensaje de RayQFun... and I don’t use to like blind tastings, but I’d accept the one we’re talking about 8-D
Cheers,
Jose
And what about white wines?
Ver mensaje de RayQThat’s why I open a sub-thread ;)
Really odd to find Reserva or GR outside DOC Rioja. Some new wineries are doing some white wines in an old-new fashioned way. Why old? They use viura. Why new? Woooood treatment. Tondonia, Gravonia, Capellanía (like Prince: The wine formerly known as Murrieta Blanco/El Dorado), but they’ve changed their style, so I don’t know what to think about it ’cos I don’t have tasted yet. New? El Contador de Gallocanta... but they’ve changed the name and now is something like ’Qué bello cacareaba’ (fun translation:’What a beautiful cock-a-doodle-do!’ ;) I don’t remember any other at this moment... So maybe we’ve less than a bunch of white Reserva and GR...

Jose
Re: And what about white wines?
Ver mensaje de joseJose,
I have to hold my hand up and admit I know very little about Spanish whites ...New style or Old.
Neither do I ! ! ! ;))))
Ver mensaje de RayQWe all overhere are learning every single day/sip! ;)

Some more experience...
Ver mensaje de joseI have tried several hundreds of different Spanish white wines… and IMHO the average level is just so-so. Buuuut, there are also some interesting exceptions, for instance, Remelluri White, the above-mentioned Ex-Gallocanta, As Sortes, Do Ferreiro Cepas Vellas, Tondonia whites (Reserva & Grand Reserva), Emilio Rojo, Vinya La Calma, El Rocallís (I will not talk about generosos and cavas in this thread).
Re: Some more experience...
Ver mensaje de Paco Higón... and Itsasmendi number 7, and Nieva Pie Franco, and Jose Pariente ... but I agree: spanish whites have stil a long way to go ...
MaJesus
But you’re including any spanish white wine...
Ver mensaje de Paco HigónWhether they’re Reserva/GR or not ;) Well, not all of them use this kind of nomenclature but some of them use a common method that looks like the ’clasical’ used in R and GR.

Jose
