My first tasting note for this database is dedicated to Juan Such, who just this afternoon inquired about the wines of Mâcon. This Saint Denis displays all the richness that is habitual in Hubert Laferrere’s wines (it’s Chardonnay picked weeks after everyone else has harvested in the area). The wine sees no oak and is bottled unfined. All the aromas and flavors here come from very ripe Chardonay grapes. And what aromas and flavors they are! White flowers, peach, pear, roasted almonds, butterscotch (really, not from oak...), beeswax, coriander. Bold on the palate, with a touch of sweetness and huge fruit presence. LOng and layered, with perfect balance of fleshy fruit, acidity and minerality. A very satisfying drink and a great value at $12.
