This was the first of several vintages I have bought from this producer. ‘Big’ Bob McLean certainly made his wines in a full on style and this flagship wine is no exception. Made from dry grown old Shiraz vines and handpicked, this usually needs at least five years bottle age, sometimes nearer ten, before it should be broached. A dark plum red, the almost port-like nose reveals dark fruits like blackberry and there is eucalyptus as well. A slick start on the taste buds, the mature fruit opens its throttle to deliver seamless pleasure. A slightly dry finish suggests that there is some possible further ageing potential.
