100% Sangiovese, and poured straight from the bottle. Velvet red with a light pink rim. Herbs dominate on the nose with a nuance of tart cherry bakewell tart and fresh almond. Initially, the rustic mouthfeel showed bitter and dying tannins with a decent bitter cherry length. With air, the tannins did soften but the taste is still simple. The last bottle I tried several months ago provided more pleasure and I am unsure whether this wine needs drinking up. I have a few more bottles of this wine and another Chianti Classico that I need to keep my eye on. I have not began to drink my other Italian wines from 1997 (eg Barolo’s, Amarone’s) as they need more time.
