Decanted into a wide decanter for an hour, then poured back into the bottle. Opaque dark plum red. The nose shows eucalyptus and noticeable sweet American oak. Plenty of red berry fruits jostle for position. The mouthfeel is seamless, powerful and the tannins are firm but not intrusive. Waves of dark plum and blackcurrant fruit roll across the palate and there is good background acidity on the long finish. More four-square that the 1998 Dead Arm is at present (I last drank the 1998 a few months ago), but both are enjoyable in different ways. All three of us liked it and drained the bottle within 30 minutes. If you own a few bottles, don’t hesitate to drink one now, after some decanting time.
