Climate change in wine bottles

We've read a lot about our globally changing climate. Apart from hearing news that Climate Change is irreversible, we have been forced to change our way of living in order to reduce its effects. Last week, temperatures in many Spanish cities such as Barcelona and Valencia witnessed record historical highs. In Pakistan there are floods and in Russia there has been devastation by way of  heatwaves. In spite of this, for me, this August has been one of the strangest that I can remember, with temperatures as low as 18º/19ºC here in Spain. However, it seems that Global Warming has also shifted to wine bottles. Let me explain: white wine is supposed to be consumed at cold temperatures i.e. chilled  . Red wine is supposed to be consumed at room temperature. Chilled means 7ºC and room temperature means between 16ºC and 18ºC. I hate being served a white wine at 3ºC, a temperature where the wine is unable to express anything of  its aromas or flavours. You would rather have a Coke or some chilled water. Wine has to be respected. Wine is much more than a simple drink. At such low temperatures it's impossible to njoy these treasures. It's insane to consume a wine at 25ºC, which is room temperature... in a restaurant kitchen, but not for humans to drink or enjoy it. Having it this warm, will burn your tongue and its soul will have evaporated for the gods to savour.  Having some hot Earl Grey tea seems a viable option to forget your plight. The world is changing. Temperatures are rising. It's getting hot  out there, but that's no reason for it to affect the temperature of our wine.  That's what common sense was invented for. That's why we have fridges and that's why human beings are here; to make a difference.  Let's hope they realise soon so that we can restore some justice to our wine bottles and to us wine consumers...
