This is the top cuvee from this estate, made from 100% Cabernet Franc old vines (c80 years old) and showing 12.5% alcohol on the label. Double decanted just before serving, no sediment. Medium strawberry colour with a faint terracotta rim and it surprised me how light it was. Some herbaceousness notes, a hint of damp forest floor and wet tree bark. The palate is a surprise, with a silky core of ultra light raspberry and cherry fruit that almost floats across the tongue. A criticism is that the mid palate and length are way too lean for my liking. A nice thread of acidity runs all the way through the taste and there is a hint of sourness, but I am left unmoved. Is this really an old vine cuvee from a successful vintage from a good producer? Maybe this is going through a closed phase, as I was told to be patient when I bought it on release.
