Decanted about 2 hours ahead. From impeccable provenance, the colour was dark strawberry and in truth not much different from the 1961 Montrose! A deep, earthy, funky nose that is one of the main characteristics of this wine and I remember this from the last time I tried it. In my glass, it opened up beautifully yet was still so young. The huge waves of fruit submerge the tannic structure and this wine has a distinctive personality that I am more than happy to reacquaint myself with on a periodic basis. An incredible wine but some wine lovers may want to wait 10-20 years before it hits its full stride.
