There was method in Manuel’s wine choices as here was a mini-vertical of the Pinot d’aunis grape! Red with black pepper, tobacco, wild herbs and a little farmyard complexity. The similarities between this and the 2002 were clear to me. Although they shared the same theme of dry cherries, there were more expressive notes of herb and pepper. The length was also longer than the 2002 and I thought it was marginally the better wine
