For some reason, this wine has been plentiful recently. I’ve found it at several places in the US for under $30 -- less than its original release price. The 1995 Prado Enea has a generous and complex aroma of cinnamon, cedar, burnt leaves, rose, raspberries and cherries. The wine is medium to light bodied with good cherry and plum fruit and firm, harmonious acidity. Notwithstanding three years in the barrel, all distinct oakiness is gone. Ultimately, however, the wine is now less interesting in the mouth than on the nose. It will improve, however, and Prado Enea is often a good option for those who like having the bottle age of an older style Rioja but find a Lopez de Heredia, for example, too idiosyncratically antiquated.
