Dark ruby, I found the aromas coming out of the glass were a touch overripe and medicinal as well. The tannins are firm, long and mostly overpower the valiant fruit. With the beef dish, the tannins certainly subsided and this almost became a balanced wine. For my palate, the tannins will always dominate the fruit and I would drink this sooner rather than later. The controversial 1983 La Chapelle split the tasting group and provided some interesting discussion. I know which side of the fence my views are at present.
